Save Money with Space Heaters

January 23rd, 2007 by digerati

Want to keep your heating costs down? Turn your heat down and use space heaters!

It costs a lot to heat a whole house. This is especially true the larger the house is. Instead of keeping the heat on during the night, let the house get cold and use a space heater in your bedroom.

This works great in bathrooms too (when the floor can be ice cold on a winter morning). It works best for singles because then you only need heat in one house.

Also closing the doors to rooms you aren’t currently using will help keep the electric bill down while using space heaters. I only have electric heat in my place since I’m in a high rise that was built in the 70’s. At night we close the doors to the other rooms in the condo, turn the heat down to a cool 65 and then just heat the bedroom. Sure its chilly in the morning when leaving the bedroom but it sure gets me moving fast! It reduced our electric bill from $95 a month to right around $70. We also turn the heat down to 65 during the day while working, it doesn’t take long to heat it up when we get home and a sweater for an hour isn’t a bad thing. The extra money we save from cost cutting goes to our vacation fund! Best ~ kate

PS: put plastic up over the windows if you have floor to ceiling windows…it really helps keep it warm in the winter.
